Increasing Health and Longevity

With continued medical advances many people are living into their 80's and 90's. Unless one takes a pro-active health stance the golden years may not be so golden. Since we are living longer it just makes good sense to increase our health so we can not only enjoy the retirement years, but add even more years to our life!

This is where Functional Training and Core Strength take on an even greater role. Studies show that as we age, if correct exercise is not engaged in we will not have strong muscles or bones. Age related muscle loss, or sarcopenia, is one of the primary causes of older people falling. When someone falls because of weak muscles, this same person often has osteoporosis. Bones that are weak and brittle are much more susceptible to breaking upon a fall ~ even a minor one from chair to floor. Now for the really scary news: these same studies show that after a fall, and subsequent surgery and recovery, death usually follows within one to two years.

What can we do to prevent this outcome? The good news is that Functional Training for ADL's and strengthening one's core are true preventive medicine. In the process of exercising correctly for your age and fitness level, muscles and bones alike are strengthened, metabolism is increased, disease is prevented and optimum health is achieved. Now the golden years become truly golden!
